The spanish fortresses of Porto Ercole
In 1550 Porto Ercole was the capital of the State of the Garrisons under Spanish rule. Fortresses were built on the Monte Argentario in defense of this small State. Still today these impregnable forts emerge from the limestone rock and with their defensive bastions, their ramparts, the unexpected luxuriance of the secret gardens and the Mediterranean brushwood, dominate the sea. The ascent to the forts will be along easy footpaths and from the top you will enjoy the view over much of the Tuscan archipelago which will give you a lasting feeling of freedom.
Duration: 4 hours
Kids: over 8 years
Costs: adults € 15.00, children € 7.00, kids free
NB: if you book at least a week before the visit, free admission for children.
Capo d'Uomo ring
We will walk on narrow streets and dirt roads of Monte Argentario, towards the Fondoni hillock where holm-oaks apparently young form a tunnel. Going up towards Capo d’Uomo the scenery changes: the scrubland stands overlooking the turquoise sea. In the background the islands of Giannutri, Giglio and Montecristo. The ruins of the tower dominate a landscape that ranges in the round between terraces, ancient farmhouses and the Tuscan archipelago. Descend on trails wrapped by the sweet-smelling maquis, where the Argentario gives the best of itself.

Sunset from the mountain
Once arrived - by car - near the monumental cross on Monte Argentario, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the lagoon of Orbetello and much of the Maremma territory. Then we change the side, so that the view sweeps over the Tuscan archipelago with the islands of Giglio, Giannutri, Elba and Montecristo. Rustic aperitif at sunset on the top of the Mounte Argentario.

Vulci and the etruscan Maremma
What was one of the principal Etruscan cities on the Fiora river is now a beautiful park. We will explore the underground passages of the villa and of its cryptoporticus where ancient springs still flow. Roman mosaics, nymphaei and hot springs will take us back in time. All around us the Maremma cattle with their majestic horns and the wild horses together with the “colored” flight of the bee-eaters will teach us to “listen” to the silence of the Maremma. Thanks to history, environment and nature we will live an experience out of time.
